Project focus – Enhanced Oil Recovery from Carbon Capture Storage in Central North Sea fields
The Facilities and Operations Manager, Exploration & Production is accountable for providing technical oversight and assurance of process and facilities engineering and operations planning for the Central North Sea Enhanced Oil Recovery project in a new venture developing CO2 EOR projects linked with CCS.
The role
- Provide technical oversight and assurance of process and facilities engineering and operations planning for the CNS EOR project, including:
- developing scope and specifications for studies, coordination and monitoring technical progress and reviewing technical reports
- regular liaison with subsurface and wells contractors and joint venture staff, including Project Manager
- reporting technical progress to client and partner management
- Studies include:
- concept selection for major redevelopment of large mature oil field(s)
- process engineering and design of new facilities, including bridge-linked platform, CO2 pumping, injection and production manifolds, separation, gas dehydration and compression, power, instrument and control, risers and subsea flow lines
- safety, integrity and life extension assessment of existing facilities
- design of brownfield modifications for tie-in of new facilities
- design and engineering of offshore installation, hook-up and commissioning
- engineering plans and financial provision for decommissioning, including post-injection monitoring of CO2 storage
- hazard analysis, safe design and operational integrity of new facilities
- assessment and modification of operating systems and human factors to accommodate field redevelopment
- environmental impact assessment of EOR redevelopment
- safety and environmental permitting of field redevelopment(s)
- scheduling and costing of facilities fabrication, brownfield modifications, offshore construction, installation, hook-up and commissioning
- estimation of EOR operating costs
- Provide technical oversight and assurance of process engineering, facilities design, permitting and operations planning for new EOR projects, as described above.
- Negotiate and administer consulting contracts for process and facilities engineering, HSE and operations support
- Provide technical support in negotiations for:
- sale and purchase of producing assets
- study agreements with partners
- CO2 storage licensing and leasing from DECC and Crown Estate
- Collaborate closely with Subsurface Manager, Wells Manager and Commercial Manager to deliver fully integrated technical/commercial work products to support E&P activities
- Liaise with CO2 pipeline and capture plant teams to develop integrated system specification, operation and development schedule
- Present on EOR and client projects for potential partners, regulators, funding providers, technical societies and general public
- Contribute technical assessments to screening and evaluation of oil fields and existing EOR projects as well as potential CO2 storage sites
- Recruit and develop facilities and operations staff for paced development of client operating capability
The requirements
- Deep technical skills in a relevant engineering discipline (process/facilities/operations engineering preferred)
- Highly experienced professional with experience at a senior level in the Oil and Gas sector.
- Extensive business management experience essential, with experience in concept selection and field development planning
- Experience in process engineering and facility design
- Demonstrated ability to integrate a broad range of process design and facility engineering information with subsurface, wells and commercial in a field development concept
- Proven ability to build and manage large, diverse teams and to influence effectively without formal authority
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and influence effectively one-on-one and in large groups over a wide range of audiences (oil companies, contractors, professional services, regulators, general public)
- Broad understanding of E&P commercial principles
- Ability work autonomously but collaboratively in a dispersed team with broad supervision
- A degree in a relevant engineering or equivalent.

- Must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom and able to travel to the USA, Canada and the EU
