More than 13 states, districts and territories and more than 200 cities and counties have committed to a 100 per cent clean energy target, according to a new report.
That means that one of three Americans live in a community that has committed to or has already achieved 100 percent clean electricity.
However 100% targets come in different forms, based on
- whether a target based on ‘renewable’ or ‘clean’ energy resources
- A State’s treatment of renewable energy certificates
- The binding nature of these targets
- Target timelines
Some cities and businesses are going further, aiming to transition their entire transportation, heating and cooling sectors to 100 per cent clean energy sources.
