A clean energy revolution is underway in the US, driven by the Biden administration’s green policies and the expansion of offshore wind on the East Coast, in the Gulf of Mexico, and in California.
The EIA’s June 2022 Short-Term Energy Outlook forecasts that renewable energy will provide 24% of US generation in 2023, up 4% from 2021. Solar PV installations will add 42GW in 2022-23, while small-scale solar capacity is set to grow to a total of 46GW and 16GW of new wind capacity will come online. And the energy storage pipeline is in good health, with utility-scale battery storage growing 196% in 2021.
Longer-term, the forecast is even brighter. In March, the world’s largest green hydrogen project was unveiled in Texas as GHI announced its 60GW wind-and-solar-powered Hydrogen City plant. A $3bn plan for electric car batteries was kick-started in May, and New York is on track to achieve its ambitious zero-emission electricity targets by 2040.
