“I highly recommend renewables to anyone who is considering a move into this space”

Carl Blundon, our Head of APAC tells us what inspired him to make the move into renewables. Find out what he had to say about his first year in this exciting sector!

Carl joined us in late 2020 as Head of APAC, and officially opened our new Taiwan office based at Taipei 101. An extremely successful leader in the recruitment sector, he brought almost twenty years of experience in the region.

Carl spent over four years at Adecco Taiwan, moving from National Sales Director to Outsourcing Director, growing the team from six to 22 and delivering impressive year-on-year growth.

He was ready for a new challenge, but moving into a completely new sector was a big decision.

Over a year into his role, we sat down with Carl to find out more about his first year with Taylor Hopkinson.

What helped you make the decision to join Taylor Hopkinson and the renewables sector?

“Making the choice to move into renewables was difficult as I had very little knowledge of the industry. I came from a recruitment background, but everything I knew about renewables had come from social conversations with friends working in this space.

In the end, the industry’s exponential growth was too good to pass up and I took the plunge – and I haven’t regretted it for a second.”

Was it a smooth transition?

“Absolutely. The training and support provided by Taylor Hopkinson in my first few months in the job was incredibly comprehensive and provided a solid base from which I could confidently approach both clients and candidates. I’ve found that people in the industry are very willing to share and this has dramatically accelerated the learning curve.”

When Carl joined us, Tom Hopkinson our CEO said,

“Carl’s appointment demonstrates our commitment to our clients and contractors in the APAC region, as well as our desire to be a long-term enabler of growth and jobs within local supply chains, driving inclusion of further local content and ensuring a sustainable renewable energy industry is created for future generations across the APAC region.”

Can you tell us more about what has happened in your first year?

“Well it’s certainly been a successful year! We made some key hires – Thomas, Crystal and Emily, taking us to a team of five, working closely with our Wind Specialist David in our Singapore office.”

“We made our most recent recruit Ellie, at the start of October this year and promoted Thomas for an extremely impressive performance over the year. Our 6-strong local, dedicated and multi-lingual APAC team has access to exciting new markets in Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam.

Our team is developing trusted relationships with clients, contractors and candidates, and has been successful in a variety of crucial tender opportunities.”

What would you say to any recruiters considering a move into the renewables sector?

“There are few sectors that will offer such a tangible, long-term opportunity for growth. It’s a hugely exciting time in renewables and we plan to grow our APAC team substantially to deliver the capacity and jobs growth that is forecast in this region.

I consider myself very fortunate to be a part of a dynamic and fast-paced industry and highly recommend renewables to anyone considering a move into this space.”
