US renewables just surpassed coal

In April, US Renewable energy capacity surpassed coal, signalling the tipping point for renewables, led predominantly by wind and solar. April’s data from FERC, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, shows that the cumulative capacity across renewables (wind, solar, biomass, geothermal, and hydropower) stood at 21.6% (257.53MW) beating out coal at 21.5% (157.48MW).

Scottish Power Renewables expands East Anglia Three to 1,400 MW

Developer, Scottish Power Renewables (SPR) plans to expand the maximum capacity for the East Anglia 3 offshore wind farm from 1,200 to 1,400MW. The UK Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) approved the change which is subject to further approval from UK marine authorities.

The World’s Largest Wind Farm, Hornsea One, is Now Online

The Hornsea One wind farm is located 75 miles off the UK coast, east of Grimsby. The asset is now partially operational with 50 of its 174 Siemens Gamesa 7MW turbines turning, enough to power 287,000 UK residencies. When completed in 2020, the 1,218MW project will be capable of supplying power to over a million homes during its 25-year lifespan, exclusively from wind.
