Commercial Project Manager – Green Hydrogen

Their initial storage endeavors, consisting of Compressed Air Energy Storage projects, are situated in the Netherlands and Denmark, with plans for further developments in Germany.

Their initial storage endeavors, consisting of Compressed Air Energy Storage projects, are situated in the Netherlands and Denmark, with plans for further developments in Germany.

They hold a distinctive position in Europe for the development and management of their LDES project portfolio, and aim to extend their reach to other significant markets such as the US, Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

The Role

  • Commercial development of the multi-hundred MW-scale CAES (Compressed Air Energy Storage) project “CAES Ahaus” up to FID with the potential to continue in role until COD when the plant becomes operational. The role is a mixed commercial-managerial role supported by other commercial roles, in-house finance- and commercial- and contracting experts and external consultants.
  • Lead project commercial team including a Financial Analyst, Revenue Analyst, Budget Manager, Grant & Funding Lead.
  • Together with the Project Director and Technical Project Manager, partners and the budget manager and cost estimator oversee the delivery and continuous improvement of cost estimates for the project (DEVEX, CAPEX, OPEX)
  • Manage commercial project progression in close alignment with project partners, developing strong relationships and integrating all commercial aspects of the project CAES Ahaus
  • Co-definition of the project financing strategy i.e. public and private funding opportunities protocols in alignment with the Corporate Finance in close alignment with the corporate finance team.
  • Steer revenue consultants to deliver the project power cost, co-fuel cost and revenue assumptions. Create and optimize the resulting project business case calculation in close conjunction with the commercial team and the project director.
  • Ensure effective planning of the critical commercial activities required to deliver the project in line with expected timelines, cost baseline to deliver the project value.
  • Identification and management of commercial project risks and opportunities together with the Risk Manager and the commercial team.
  • Foster a collaborative project environment with project partners, suppliers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Supporting the Project Director in the hiring, building and improving the project team.
  • Support with Public Affairs and Regulatory framework / policy shaping work streams in Germany.
  • Support selected community engagement activities.
  • Participation in contract negotiations with partners, suppliers, offtakers.
  • Participation in preparing national German & European grant / subsidy applications for first of a kind industrial scale projects in energy storage

The Responsibilities

  • Commercial deliverables progression towards FID and beyond for project CAES Ahaus.
  • Ownership of project business case model the revenue estimates from the CAES plant jointly with Financial Analyst, Commercial Team, Technical Project Manager and Project Director.
  • Capture for the project business case model the DEVEX, CAPEX, OPEX, ABEX estimates for the CAES plant jointly with Technical Project Manager and Project Director
  • Commercially support grid connection agreements with the electricity TSO Amprion.
  • Commercially support grid connection agreements with the gas TSO Open Grid Europe (OGE)
  • Commercial inputs to Risk Register
  • Inputs and alignment with Scheduler on commercial activities & deliverables
  • Draft financing strategy for the CAES project. Assist with the financing of the project with funders
  • Commercial chapters of future funding / subsidy applications on a German or European Leve
  • Co-definition of strategies and regulatory framework / policy suggestions in the German energy storage sector as part of the collaboration with other storage solutions providers e.g in the BVES
