Lead the commercial & regulatory scopes for a portfolio of HVDC development projects through development and construction. You will secure successful FID for each project working with internal and external stakeholders to optimize business case, contracting strategy, construction planning and optimize the available revenue.
The Role
- Understand investment objectives and design commercial approaches to achieve same
- Develop deep expertise in regulatory regimes in UK (led by OFGEM) and connecting countries (led by BNetzA and CREG)
- Foster productive relationships with regulators to protect project progress and business case
- Lead Final Project Assessment (FPA) process in UK and equivalent processes in connecting countries to ensure appropriate revenue regime for the HVDC investments
- Limit disallowed cost through effective commercial strategies within the project development and delivery stages
- Support positive Final Investment Decision in large scale HVDC projects by presenting robust business cases and commercial risk management
- Support procurement activities with strategic commercial input and regulatory guidance
- Maintain ongoing alignment with internal and external teams over the life of the project. Deep-dive topics with permit experts, technical experts, investment experts to add value and manage risk
- Establish appropriate communication with senior management and all project groups and functions within and outside the company.
Development phase:
- Own regulatory relationships with OFGEM, BNetzA, CREG etc
- Own and lead the FPA process in UK and equivalent regulatory revenue regime processes in connecting countries
- Optimize project commercial strategies to limit disallowable costs including in the areas of contracting
- Leverage key commercial acumen and regulatory knowledge in fast-paced complex development projects
- Own commercial strategy within projects and spar with internal & external stakeholders to optimize the strategy
- Manage commercial risk across all areas of the projects
- Support project financing requirements
- Empower project team to manage RFPs and procurement processes as necessary, working together with the Project Director and Investment Team to define and develop most feasible project economics.
- Communicate and report on project and investment portfolio health to internal & external stakeholders.
- Support as required in preparing investor material & FID material
- Support Investment team in transaction close-out and due diligence with 3rd party service providers as required.
Construction phase:
- Support delivery team in commercial matters to protect project value
- Liaise with OFGEM, BNetzA, CREG etc to appraise of project progress
- Establish reporting rigor ready for operational phase

- Track record of commercial expertise and regulatory engagement in large-scale infrastructure projects
- Action-oriented and willing to tackle problems to deliver results
- Experience in managing senior and junior stakeholders
- Excellent communication & project / programme management skills
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in economics, law, science, engineering or similar
