CTV Port Captain

Overview:
This vessel-based role is responsible for the daily supervision and coordination of crew transfer vessel (CTV) operations within offshore wind environments. The position ensures safe, efficient, and regulation-compliant activities onboard, while supporting the crew with operational leadership and continuous performance improvement.


Key Responsibilities

Operational Management & Vessel Readiness

  • Oversee the daily functions of assigned offshore support vessels, ensuring full compliance with safety and operational standards.

  • Coordinate with ports, agencies, and stakeholders to facilitate efficient vessel movement and reduce delays.

  • Monitor vessel condition and readiness, ensuring alignment with both internal protocols and applicable maritime regulations.

  • Work closely with onboard leadership (Masters, Chief Engineers) to ensure effective voyage planning and scheduling.

Port Operations & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Act as the primary liaison for all port-related matters, including communication with port officials, clients, and service entities.

  • Supervise entry and departure activities, berth management, and all crew or cargo logistics.

  • Manage regulatory paperwork and ensure prompt submission of all required documentation.

Regulatory Compliance & Maritime Safety

  • Guarantee vessel operations follow relevant international and local maritime laws (e.g., ISM, ISPS, MARPOL, SOLAS).

  • Conduct shipboard audits and safety inspections to ensure ongoing compliance.

  • Support the rollout of organizational health, safety, environmental, and quality systems onboard.

Crew Support & Development

  • Guide and mentor vessel crew, fostering open communication between offshore teams and shore-based operations.

  • Assist with onboarding, safety briefings, and port-specific training for new or rotating crew members.

  • Observe operational practices and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and adherence to standards.

Technical Oversight & Preventive Maintenance

  • Monitor vessel technical performance and collaborate with technical support teams for issue resolution.

  • Assist in executing preventive maintenance strategies and troubleshooting technical anomalies.

  • Coordinate with shore teams for repairs, inspections, and spare part logistics.

Onboard Training & Skill Enhancement

  • Lead regular safety drills and training sessions related to operations, emergency response, and technical systems.

  • Facilitate risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety briefings aligned with regulatory expectations.

  • Implement competency development plans to meet STCW and organizational benchmarks.

Emergency Planning & Response

  • Prepare contingency plans for unexpected operational or technical incidents.

  • Lead and coordinate emergency responses, ensuring timely and effective resolution.

Performance Tracking & Optimization

  • Establish systems for tracking operational and technical performance indicators.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to address performance concerns and implement lasting solutions.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid STCW Management-Level Certificate of Competency with relevant offshore experience.

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in vessel operations, particularly within the offshore wind or support vessel sector.

  • In-depth understanding of maritime regulations, safety systems, and vessel performance management.

  • Proven track record in seagoing leadership roles, including training and crew development.

  • Strong communicator with the ability to lead in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.

  • Detail-oriented problem solver with a proactive mindset and operational focus.
