Development Director- Floating Solar

Development Director position working for a pioneering developer of floating solar as part of fast-growing team of industry experts which is growing aggressively following major investment.

This is a full-time, remote position with travel (must be US-based).

Role

The Director of Development, Project Management will play a critical role in driving the successful execution of the current and future portfolio. This individual will be responsible for building and leading a team of Project Managers, working with cross-functional teams, driving projects to completion and ensuring all developments align with company goals and industry standards.

The ideal candidate has deep expertise in renewable energy development, project management, and stakeholder engagement, combined with a passion for advancing sustainable energy solutions.

Essential Functions:

  • Project Leadership
    • Oversee all aspects of project development and execution, including feasibility studies, permitting, design, and construction, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Team Management
    • Lead project management team and foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with site owners, regulators, utilities, contractors, and other key stakeholders to facilitate project success.
  • Risk Management
    • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, ensuring compliance with environmental, legal, and regulatory requirements.
  • Financial Oversight
    • Manage project schedules, budgets and cost estimates to maximize project profitability and efficiency.
  • Strategic Planning
    • Contribute to the development of long-term strategies for project portfolio growth, operational excellence, and market expansion.
  • Reporting
    • Prepare and deliver detailed project updates to senior leadership and other stakeholders, providing data-driven insights and recommendations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in energy project development or management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of solar energy systems and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven ability to oversee complex, multidisciplinary projects from inception to completion.
  • Demonstrated success in leading teams, managing stakeholders, and fostering collaboration.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in project management software and budget tools.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
