Development Manager

Job Purpose
The Development Manager oversees the lifecycle of projects from early-stage development to notice to proceed. This includes creating and implementing project plans, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing budgets, and ensuring objectives are met to deliver valuable energy infrastructure investments.

Key Responsibilities

Technical and Commercial:

  • Support the development of project business cases and assist senior leadership in reporting to stakeholders.
  • Refine and manage project budgets, schedules, risks, and opportunities.
  • Coordinate all aspects of project development, ensuring timely and efficient progression to final investment decisions and notice to proceed.
  • Support procurement activities, including key contracts like EPC agreements, to optimize project capital expenditure.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to report on project performance, returns, and health.
  • Manage third-party service providers such as EPC contractors, owner’s engineers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Resolve project issues promptly to safeguard timelines, budgets, and returns.

People and Performance:

  • Foster a high-performing project team environment, supporting team health and development in alignment with organizational goals.

Financial Management:

  • Provide inputs for financial modeling, ensuring accurate assumptions on costs and performance.
  • Oversee project budgets, cash flow, and financial tracking to maintain solvency and meet financial targets.
  • Prepare reports on project health, timelines, team performance, and financial metrics.

Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):

  • Ensure adherence to HSE standards for site visits, including risk assessments and PPE compliance.
  • Promote a culture of safety, participating in training and reporting potential hazards promptly.

Cultural Expectations:

  • Provide constructive feedback and maintain transparent, empathetic communication.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Degree in Engineering, Project Management, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in project development, engineering, or construction of energy or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with major procurement processes, such as EPC contracts.
  • Demonstrated success in contributing to investment decisions for large-scale projects, preferably within renewable energy.
  • Strong budget management and project planning skills.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication abilities.
  • Fluent in English AND Japanese; additional language skills as required by the region of operation.

Preferred:

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy technologies and market trends.
