A leading global energy technology company is seeking an Energy Market Strategy & Regulatory Lead to drive market entry, participation, and compliance efforts in Japan. This role focuses on Balancing Markets, Ancillary Services, Capacity Markets, and Local Network Flexibility, ensuring strategic growth and regulatory alignment in Japan’s evolving energy landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Market Strategy & Development
- Conduct market research and analysis to identify opportunities in Balancing Markets, Wholesale Markets, and Capacity Markets.
- Develop and implement data-driven strategies to optimize market participation.
- Monitor regulatory updates, competitor activities, and industry trends.
Regulatory & Compliance Management
- Stay up to date with Japan’s energy market regulations, policies, and standards.
- Assess and manage regulatory risks in customer contracts and market operations.
- Maintain a compliance framework and communicate requirements internally.
Market Operations & Participation
- Oversee the company’s registration and participation in key energy markets.
- Lead Capacity Market auction submissions, ensuring full compliance.
- Support early customers with site audits, testing, and onboarding.
- Collaborate with product teams to align market needs with technical solutions.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies, market operators, and industry associations (e.g., OCCTO, METI, TDGC, JEPX, TSOs).
- Represent the company in industry forums, conferences, and working groups.
- Support business development efforts by engaging with key customers and partners.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in Japan’s electricity markets, in a regulatory, strategy, or commercial role.
- Strong understanding of Japan’s Grid/Electricity regulatory framework, including Capacity Markets, Demand Response, and Energy Management.
- Ability to analyze complex market trends and develop actionable strategies.
- Project management skills with the ability to drive initiatives independently.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Excel (Python for forecasting is a plus).
- Fluent in Japanese, with good working proficiency in English.
- Willingness to travel for commercial and regulatory engagements.
