Position: Engineering Manager

Location: Tokyo, Japan

Position Summary

The Engineering Manager will oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of large-scale renewable energy projects, including solar PV, onshore wind, and energy storage. This role ensures technical compliance, project efficiency, and cost-effectiveness while working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage engineering design from concept to construction, ensuring alignment with project requirements and timelines.
  • Oversee technical specifications, layouts, and design improvements to optimize project performance.
  • Support procurement by evaluating technical requirements, reviewing bids, and negotiating contracts.
  • Coordinate with contractors, designers, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.
  • Provide technical support during construction, resolving design issues and ensuring project quality.
  • Conduct technical due diligence for renewable energy projects in collaboration with M&A teams.
  • Regularly communicate with project teams, suppliers, and other stakeholders to align on technical solutions and project progress.
  • Travel to project sites as needed to oversee engineering activities.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical or Civil preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in renewable energy project engineering, particularly solar or BESS.
  • Strong knowledge of high-voltage systems, grid connection regulations, and BOP/EPC contract management.
  • Proficiency in engineering tools such as AutoCAD, MS Project, Pvsyst, WindPro, and WAsP.
  • Japanese licenses for managing with the electric companies and local suppliers.
  • Business-level English proficiency; Japanese language skills preferred.
  • Holders of Dai-Ichi Denki Shunin Gijutsusha or Dai-Ni Denki Shunin Gijutsusha licenses are preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to travel domestically for project coordination and site inspections.
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills with a proactive and solution-driven mindset.
