Field Technician

About the Role

We are supporting a leading renewable energy services provider in the search for an experienced Field Technician to support the operation and maintenance of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems.

This is a hands-on technical role responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and high-performing operation of grid-scale battery assets. The role may include on-call responsibilities and acting as the senior site representative in the absence of a Site Supervisor. You will work closely with a 24/7 Control Room, engineering teams, and asset managers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, corrective, and reactive maintenance on utility-scale BESS assets, including battery units, PCS/inverters, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, test, inspect, repair, commission, and modify electrical and control systems associated with battery storage plants.
  • Monitor and support plant operations via SCADA systems, responding to alarms, trips, and performance issues.
  • Execute medium and high voltage switching in accordance with approved procedures and safety requirements.
  • Ensure strict compliance with WHS, electrical safety, and environmental procedures, including LOTO and permit-to-work systems.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in power generation, battery storage, or electrical infrastructure roles.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Battery Energy Storage Systems.
  • Strong understanding of HV/MV/LV electrical systems, protection schemes, and grid-connected assets.
  • Proven experience performing HV switching, fault-finding, and electrical testing.
  • Strong safety mindset with experience working in high-risk electrical environments.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and respond effectively to faults and outages.

Qualifications & Certifications (Essential)

  • Unrestricted Electrical Licence (state-based).
  • Trade Qualification – Electrical.
  • High Voltage Switching Operator certification (essential).
  • Construction White Card.
  • Valid First Aid, CPR, and Low Voltage (LV) Rescue certification.
  • Current Australian Driver’s Licence.
  • Experience with SCADA systems, data loggers, routers, and data communications.
  • Strong computer literacy (Microsoft Office, CMMS systems).
  • Full Australian working rights.

Desirable

  • Prior experience with grid-scale battery systems.
  • Previous supervisory or acting site-lead experience.
  • Willingness to travel to other battery sites as required.
