Grid Connection Manager – Green Hydrogen

With the expanding project portfolio, our client is looking to establish a matrix organisation with an engineering function that will serve as the functional home for both surface and sub-surface skill pools. The engineering function aims to support all projects in the portfolio by providing the necessary technical expertise.

As part of the Engineering function, our client is seeking an experienced Subsurface Lead. In this position, you will be supporting various Development and Project directors by providing the essential subsurface knowledge to mature those projects from Origination to FID. This will also involve liaising with cavern development companies, authorities, technical contractors, and local stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

* Provide technical assistance during project development, considering factors influencing and influenced by the grid connection.
* Conduct technical due diligence and risk assessment on grid connection conditions/agreements with German power TSOs.
* Manage Technical Advisors/Suppliers to support Grid Studies and Delivery-related activities.
* Develop and maintain relationships with power TSOs and relevant authorities to support the grid application and delivery process.
* Manage and be responsible for the process of grid applications, ensuring timely submissions and follow-ups to achieve HV grid connection capacity by the planned milestone date.
* Review technical designs submitted by HV/MV contractors or EPCs to meet company requirements and achieve cost efficiency without compromising quality.
* Be responsible for “grid intelligence” and implement new connection methods arising from policy changes and changing industry standards.
* Develop and maintain relationships with HV/MV contractors and EPCs to drive performance and ensure they deliver their services.
* Negotiate and develop grid connection designs that reduce installation time and cost while maintaining or improving plant performance.
* Support the operation and maintenance of industrial plants by providing grid expertise to the Asset Manager & O&M team managers throughout the life of the plant.
* Build, maintain, and optimize knowledge databases while developing expert tools.
* Support business intelligence with GIS spatial data solutions (QGIS, ArcGIS), integrating raster and vector data (including AutoCAD) with the flexibility of Google Earth software.
* Provide engineering/expertise support and technical assurance for modifications, maintenance, integrity, and operations.
* Serve as Technical Authority 2 (TA-2) in the area of Electrical Engineering, Maintenance & Integrity.
* Occasionally participate in expert groups at BVES industry association, representing our client on HV Grid and systems topics, including regulations interpretation & adaptation.
* Provide risk assessments, define mitigations, and authorize deviations from standards/processes.
* Be accountable for discipline QA/QC, compliance with standards/procedures/instructions, and contract holder ship of specific discipline contracts.

Qualifications:
* Degree in electrical engineering or closely related field and min. Experience within the German power industry or with German power TSOs.
* Experience with HV grid connection design, application & execution.
* Experience with industry projects including air compressors, gas turbines, power generators and industrial plant control systems.
* Good Knowledge & project application experience of German HV power standards and codes.
* Knowledge in electricity trading, dispatch/scheduling, market mechanisms, and provision of system services is an advantage.
* Start-Up mindset & hands-on approach suitable for fitting into an innovative, international company working cross-functionally across team members from Germany, Netherlands, Denmark and various other countries.
* Fluent German and English.
