HV Commissioning Engineer

Position Requirements

  • Proven Electrical Commissioning Engineer experience in MV/HV assets (Client or Contractor role).

  • Knowledge of testing alarms, controls, and indications from a range of MV/HV equipment to SCADA systems.

  • Knowledge of commissioning LV/MV/HV switchgear and associated components.

  • Familiarity with Siemens/GE protection relays, including IEC61850/GOOSE communications (desirable).

  • Experience with BMS systems (desirable).

  • Understanding of HV Safety Rules.

  • Self-motivated, with strong planning, coordination, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Fluent written and verbal English with excellent communication skills.


Scope of Work

  • Work alongside Electrical Systems Package site representatives and Client Commissioning Engineers to assist in delivering commissioning activities as the Client’s Engineer, driving site progress to meet project schedules.

  • Act as Client representative for Stage 1 and Stage 2 Commissioning for substations or wind turbines, including witnessing and sign-off.

  • Provide technical support to Project Senior Authorised Persons and M&E Engineers.

  • Assist the Client Commissioning Manager (Lead) and SCADA Commissioning Manager.

  • Be based primarily on a Jack-Up Vessel or Commissioning Vessel following offshore asset installation, with possible short-term work in the onshore construction yard before load-out.

  • Conduct initial investigation and reporting of incidents.

  • Perform switching operations (66 kV – 155 kV) at offshore substations, export cables, and wind turbines in line with RWE HV Safety Rules.

  • Manage the Permit to Work (PTW) system, including permit requests and approvals.

  • Carry out fault diagnosis and troubleshooting on offshore HV equipment.


Deliverables

  • Provide weekly progress reports and record keeping on progress and issues to the Client Commissioning Manager (Lead).

  • Liaise with Engineering and Quality Departments to resolve outstanding engineering or quality issues.

  • Interface with the IAC team, OSS team, and WTG team.

  • Prepare switching plans and HV switching schedules.

  • Ensure accurate production of ‘As-Built’ drawings and commissioning records by contractors.
