Interconnection Specialist

Overview: The Interconnection SME will lead the delivery of all interconnection and transmission-related activities across multiple utility-scale energy projects, with a core focus on solar and energy storage. This role involves direct engagement with ISOs/RTOs, utilities, internal stakeholders, and clients, while mentoring junior staff and support

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the end-to-end interconnection process for large generator projects, coordinating with cross-functional internal teams and subcontractors.

  • Lead and review the development of electrical system design, including technical drawings and modeling packages.

  • Submit and manage interconnection applications, ensuring all documentation and modeling requirements are accurately completed and submitted on time.

  • Act as the technical lead and escalation point for all interconnection-related matters across projects.

  • Maintain oversight of interconnection procedures, regulatory updates, and technical standards across ISO/RTOs and major utilities.

  • Provide QA/QC on internal and third-party deliverables related to interconnection scopes.

  • Collaborate with clients and serve as the primary point of contact for interconnection strategy and execution.

  • Support business process improvement by developing and refining internal procedures to drive consistency and efficiency.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • PE license (Power discipline) strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing multiple interconnection scopes across utility-scale renewable energy projects.

  • Strong understanding of ISO/RTO processes and utility interconnection requirements.

  • North American project experience with working knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and regulatory frameworks (FERC, NERC, etc.).

  • Experience selecting and specifying electrical equipment (e.g., transformers, switchgear) and developing project deliverables.

  • Proficiency in tools such as ETAP, SKM, Smart Plant Electrical, MS Visio, and MS Access.

  • Strong interpersonal and client-facing communication skills.

  • Proven ability to mentor junior staff and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with interest in supporting business growth.

Preferred Experience:

  • Background in wind, power-to-X, or hybrid project development.

  • Experience working with or within engineering consultancy or EPC environments
