Principal Wind Engineer

An international advisory firm is seeking a Principal Wind Engineer to join its growing renewable energy team in the Asia Pacific region. This role offers the opportunity to act as a regional subject matter expert in wind energy while helping to build and lead a team of specialists.

Role Overview:

This position plays a key leadership role in delivering wind energy technical advisory services across the full project lifecycle-from early development to operational optimization. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in wind resource assessment, energy yield analysis, and performance benchmarking, with a client-focused and solutions-driven approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the regional expert for wind energy technical matters.

  • Advise clients during project phases including site selection, layout design, loss and uncertainty analysis, and operational benchmarking.

  • Review and sign off on Energy Yield Assessments (EYAs), site suitability reports, and long-term forecasts using tools like Openwind and CFD.

  • Lead training initiatives and mentor junior engineers.

  • Collaborate with commercial and legal teams to shape proposals and deliverables.

  • Represent the organization at industry events and technical panels.

  • Innovate and enhance tools, processes, and methodologies for improved assessment accuracy and efficiency.

  • Contribute to internal quality control and peer review processes.

  • Write technical papers and thought leadership content.

  • Moderate travel within APAC or globally.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in the wind sector, ideally within consultancy, or IPP environments.

  • Proficient in wind analysis software (e.g., Openwind, WAsP, WindPro, CFD).

  • Strong understanding of meteorological data, SCADA systems, and operational assessments.

  • Proven ability to manage clients and lead complex technical scopes.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
