Project CEO BESS Italy

Taylor Hopkinson is retained exclusively by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) to search and select a Project CEO for their 2.3 GW Italian BESS portfolio.

This is a unique opportunity to play a central leadership role in the execution of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in Italy, working at the forefront of the energy transition with one of the most influential players in renewables infrastructure globally.

The Opportunity

As Project CEO, you will assume full ownership of project delivery from development through construction and into commercial operation. Leading multidisciplinary teams and coordinating external stakeholders, you will ensure that each asset within the BESS portfolio is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.

Reporting directly to the project board, you will act as the driving force behind the delivery strategy, identifying commercial risks and opportunities, and ensuring the governance and structure required for successful execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire project teams to achieve timely, on-budget delivery while maintaining the highest standards in health and safety.
  • Represent the project at board level with clear, strategic updates and actionable items for decision-making.
  • Oversee engagement with authorities, contractors, and consultants, ensuring alignment and accountability.
  • Manage risks proactively and secure value throughout the project life-cycle.
  • Establish and maintain a robust project structure that fosters transparency, responsiveness, and early issue detection.

Requirements

  • A degree in engineering, project management, business, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 year’s experience leading large-scale infrastructure or energy projects, ideally in the Italian market.
  • Proven track record in managing projects from development through construction to commercial operation.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, permitting processes, and construction practices in Italy.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with external partners, authorities, and consultants.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and risk mitigation.
  • Full professional fluency in both Italian and English (written and spoken).
