As part of this growth strategy, the business is seeking an experienced commercial leader to drive market expansion and oversee major wind energy sales initiatives in Japan.
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Sales Director to lead wind energy sales activities in the Japanese market. This role will be responsible for defining and executing sales strategies, managing complex commercial negotiations, and leading a local sales team to secure large-scale renewable energy projects.
The successful candidate will act as a senior commercial representative, working closely with technical, legal, finance, and supply chain teams to deliver competitive proposals and long-term customer relationships.
Responsibilities:
* Define and execute sales strategies aligned with regional and global growth objectives.
* Lead customer engagement throughout the full sales lifecycle, supported by internal technical and commercial teams.
* Oversee tender reviews, bid development, and contract negotiations, ensuring alignment with internal governance processes.
* Manage commercial and contractual negotiations, including risk assessment and compliance requirements.
* Lead cross-functional teams across engineering, legal, finance, and supply chain to deliver effective and competitive proposals.
* Manage the full negotiation cycle from NDA through to contract signature.
* Develop and maintain structured customer segmentation and long-term relationship management strategies.
* Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to a local sales team of approximately five professionals, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture.
Requirements:
* Native-level Japanese language capability.
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business Administration; Master’s degree preferred.
* 15+ years of experience in sales, project management, or commercial roles within wind energy, offshore oil & gas (EPCI), infrastructure, or power generation.
* Proven track record in negotiating large, complex, long-cycle contracts.
* Strong understanding of commercial risk, contract structures, and project economics.
* Familiarity with FIDIC Yellow Book and major EPC / supply contracts.
* Advanced business acumen with professional fluency in English.
