Wind Project Development Manager

Opportunity for a Development Manager working for a portfolio company managed by one of the world’s largest dedicated renewable energy funds, focused on wind energy development in New York State.

This is a full-time, permanent position probably based in upstate New York, however a remote set-up from other relocations in the US Northeast can also be considered for a suitable candidate. Candidates will also have the option to work form an office base in Chicago with regular travel.

Role

Seeking a candidate to fill a Development Manager role to assist in the development of wind energy projects across NY State.

This Development Manager role will primarily focus on managing several workstreams on two wind projects already in development, in addition to playing a supporting role through financing, construction, and commissioning of a portfolio in NY. The Development Manager will work alongside our project development team and report to our Director of Development.

Key Tasks/Duties

Real Estate:

  • Negotiate land security contracts and manage land agents for projects
  • Conduct site visits with prospective landowners to accelerate lease execution where needed
  • Manage and coordinate real estate tracking and progress updates, including quality control measures for land agreements, redlining, and recording with county clerks’ offices.
  • Understand the sequencing of land acquisition as it relates to other development milestones (interconnection, permitting, wind resource etc.)
  • Manage lease revisions and maintain a knowledge of real property processes in New York State.

Electrical Interconnection:

  • Manage and support the generator interconnection process for the Hoffman Falls and Agricola projects.
  • Maintain ongoing knowledge of key stages of the project interconnection process to assess risks and inform project development.
  • Initiate & manage contracts with 3rd party Interconnection consultants throughout the development process.
  • Integrate directly with development, commercial, and construction teams to ensure interconnection procedures and timelines align with overall project schedules.
  • Attend regular NYISO stakeholder calls and technical workshops to maintain market knowledge.
  • Maintain ongoing project risk assessments as it relates to grid competition and capacity.

Wind Energy Resource Assessment:

  • Manage current fleet of on-site wind resource measurement equipment on Hoffman Falls and Agricola.
  • Coordinate energy resource assessments utilizing internal and external third-party engineers to actively assess energy yield and wake loss
  • Coordinate on-site installations of wind energy measurement equipment such as LiDARs, SoDARs and meteorological masts with support from technician consultants

Permitting Support:

  • Support the permitting team’s ongoing Article VIII permitting application work by coordinating field access and landowner notifications, and actively responding to project design changes that impact needed land rights.
  • Manage layout design and micrositing changes, coordinating with 3rd party consultants where needed to make informed decisions on turbine placement.
  • Conduct ongoing field verification to support engineering and design on projects, working with landowners and environmental and engineering teams during a project’s 10%, 30%, and 60% design stages through to IFC engineering.
  • Support stakeholder engagement activities and community relationship building by attending town board meetings, project open houses, and helping to manage public relations strategies.

Technical & Market Activities:

  • Conduct power market analysis’ and manage 3rd party related consultants.
  • Manage the submission of annual power contract proposal submissions and other contract procurement items.
  • Assist in the management wind project micro siting and optimization using industry specific software and applications.
  • Assist project director in engineering and pre-construction related activities.

Requirements

  • The candidate must have at least direct experience in wind energy development, and experience in managing the key aspects of project development activities.
  • Experience developing wind energy projects in New York State & the US Northeast considered a strong asset.
  • The ideal candidate must have excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills and be self-motivated.
  • The ideal candidate must be setup to work from a home office or 3rd party co-workspace.
  • Expected on-site travel of up to 20% for projects, team events, and conferences
  • Must possess valid driver’s licence and be willing to travel throughout the US northeast.
