WTG – Quality Engineer

WTG Quality Engineer needed for a Major Offshore Wind project in Germany.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the WTG QE (Portfolio) to ensure contractual and employer requirements are implemented by contractors.
  • Review, assess, and approve quality documentation from suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute Quality Control (QC) activities for WTG components including blades and sub-components.
  • Lead and manage day-to-day activities of Quality Inspectors.
  • Oversee and monitor supply chain performance to ensure compliance with standards and project requirements.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, and quality surveillance in line with ITPs and Project Quality Plans.
  • Capture all inspections, progress, and non-conformities in clients quality inspection app.
  • Evaluate inspection reports, findings, and quality trends.
  • Initiate, log, and manage Non-Conformity (NC) reports and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Maintain an auditable trail of all quality activities and associated documentation.
  • Recommend appropriate resolutions for NCs, including concessions, and manage acceptance/rejection.
  • Escalate critical quality issues to the Quality Manager.
  • Support claims processes and solutions for quality-related issues.
  • Collate as-built, installation, and supporting quality records required for Commercial Operation.
  • Produce weekly quality and progress reports.
  • Liaise with contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal project teams.
  • Support compliance with project certification requirements (VGB, European Directives).
  • Travel to supplier locations as required and perform other QA/QC tasks as directed.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years’ QA/QC experience within WTG manufacturing or offshore wind.
  • Strong understanding of WTG manufacturing processes, including blades and sub-components.
  • Knowledge of WTG fabricators, supply chains, and marketplace performance.
  • Strong experience coordinating and managing Quality Inspectors.
  • Good understanding of WTG quality requirements, risks, and applicable standards.
  • Experience with Inspection & Test Plans, Project Quality Plans, and Quality Surveillance Programs.
  • Experience monitoring contractor and supply chain compliance.
  • Understanding of Project Certification requirements (VGB, European Directives).
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • High IT literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Degree in Mechanical or Energy Engineering, or HNC/equivalent apprenticeship background (fabrication/assembly preferred).
  • Experience in WTG manufacture, assembly, and installation.
  • APQP4Wind experience (preferred).
  • ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor qualification.
  • CQI membership or equivalent.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Required HSE training or willingness to obtain: Full GWO, HUET, Working at Heights, Fire Awareness, First Aid.
  • Must have right to work in Germany/EU (UK nationals need visa/residence permit).
  • Able to work hybrid from Hamburg; no expenses for commuting to base location; travel expenses only per in-country policy.
