Taylor Hopkinson is delighted to have supported Protermosolar, the Spanish Association for the Promotion of the Solar Thermal Industry, in the appointment of David Trebolle as its new Secretary General.
David was appointed into his new role at Protermosolar’s annual Board meeting in July. The appointment marks a new stage in the organisation’s strategy, as it works to grow the sector and deliver the ambition detailed in Spain’s National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC). Spain is targeting net zero emissions by 2050 and aims to ensure energy security by diversifying generation, increasing homegrown renewables capacity – particularly solar energy and wind power – and increasing grid flexibility.
David brings to his new position a wealth of renewables knowledge, with 20 years of experience in the energy sector in the UK, Belgium and Spain. During his career he has directed and managed multidisciplinary teams working on regulatory affairs, asset management in transmission and distribution, data and network analysis, machine learning, cybersecurity, distributed energy integration, smart grids, IT and OT systems, network operation and planning, and financial analysis.
David has also served as Chairman of the group of experts representing Europe’s 2700 electricity distribution companies, and as Vice Chairman of the Active System Management group at Eurelectric. An author of more than 20 publications, David combines his professional work with an academic career – he lectures in Operation and planning in distribution networks and Optimal capital structure in regulated businesses at the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas, and Energy transition in the ERMA master’s degree from the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
A key strategic hire for Protermosolar
“I’m delighted to join Protermosolar at an exciting time for Spain’s solar thermal industry,” says David Trebolle, the association’s new Secretary General. “I’m looking forward to working with our members to deliver on the aims of the PNIEC, moving the solar thermal sector forward in Spain, and protecting the interests of our associates as we accelerate the energy transition. I’d like to thank Lucas and the team at Taylor Hopkinson for connecting me to this significant opportunity and for their diligence and professionalism in securing my new position.”
“Taylor Hopkinson was able to bring us a candidate from outside our sector, which brings a new approach to Protermosolar” said Gonzalo Martin, Protermosolar’s former Secretary General, now acting as an advisor to the association.
“It has been a pleasure to support Protermosolar with this critical appointment,” says Lucas Hofmann, our Director, Iberia & LATAM.
“This was a challenging search that required an exceptionally experienced candidate with deep knowledge of the sector in Spain and beyond,” says Noelia Paniagua, our Key Account Consultant who led the process. David brings over 20 years of expertise to the role and we’re sure he will be a great asset for Spain’s solar thermal industry. We look forward to further supporting the growth of the sector and securing more strategic hires for Spain’s leading green energy companies.”
