The Indian state that produces more wind power than Sweden or Denmark
Sweden, which is aiming to become one of the first countries to generate 100% of its electricity from renewable sources, has a wind-power capacity of 6.7GW.
And Denmark, considered by many as the birthplace of the modern wind energy industry, has a wind-power capacity of 5.5GW. But a combined installed capacity of 7.9 gigawatts (GW) puts Tamil Nadu it ahead of many such countries regarded as champions of green power.
Portugal covered their energy demand for March with renewables
These data indicate a historical inflection point in the electricity sector and renewables are expected to cover total consumption by 2040.
The UK hit an all-time record for Wind Power output
Power generation from Britain’s wind farms hit a record 14.2 gigawatts (GW) on March 17 where wind power represented 34.2% of domestic electricity generation at 1430 GMT (source: National Grid).
Why we need an ‘Internet of Energy’
Two technological revolutions are shaping the dawn of the 21st century: the development of the internet and the shift towards a carbon-free global energy system. With the advent of the Internet of Things, these two revolutions are rapidly converging and will ultimately result in an “Internet of Energy”.
