Siemens Gamesa and the University of Hull are collaborating to provide a 3-year MSc masters in engineering for Offshore Wind Engineers, starting in September 2019. The 6-module course will include real-world experience with apprenticeship placements at 3 UK locations and graduates of the programme will be eligible to register as Chartered Engineers.
We’ve written before about the growing skills shortage in the industry and as the number of people working in renewables continues to expand, we need grassroots solutions like this to develop the specialist talent and provide a route into renewables. This isn’t a local problem and we’ve covered some of the solutions needed for locations like the US (offshore wind) and Spain. We’re also already recruiting international offshore wind teams to work in Taiwan. Diversity also plays an important part, both in terms of building stronger multicultural teams, and opening routes into the industry for everybody, to develop the workforce.
