Developer, Scottish Power Renewables (SPR) plans to expand the maximum capacity for the East Anglia 3 offshore wind farm from 1,200 to 1,400MW. The UK Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) approved the change which is subject to further approval from UK marine authorities.
The expansion places SPR in a better position future auctions and allows improving technology to be considered, removing the 2017 cap of 12MW per turbine, while retaining the maximum rotor diameter at 220m.
East Anglia three is the fourth of four SPR projects that plan to develop East Anglia as a world leader in offshore wind. The first of these, East Anglia One, is under construction and will be fully operational in 2020.
