Established Offshore Wind developer seeking a Grid Engineer to join team focused on a new offshore wind farm in Scotland. Reporting to the Electrical Design Manager, the Grid Engineer will lead electrical engineering technical matters associated with the development phase of the offshore wind project up to FID. The Grid Engineer shall ensure that good quality electrical technical inputs are provided to internal and external teams as and when required, and that received electrical engineering works are up to the required standard, on time, and within budget.

The Grid Engineer will support electrical design activities from the turbines up to the grid connection point, including WTG transformer and breakers, inter-array/export cables, on/offshore substations, and communication, protection and control systems. All this with the aim to develop a reliable technical solution, optimising LCoE and keeping high-quality while minimising health, safety and environmental risk.

The Grid Engineer will also support in technical due diligence and grid connection matters, represent the company and project in industrial grid and electrical fora, and provide diligent electrical technical support to procurement, legal and other teams across the project and the company.


  • Responsible for the delivery of electrical work packages associated with the development of the offshore wind project including onshore and offshore substations, onshore and offshore export cables, inter array cables and WTGs, to achieve the optimal design in terms of efficiency, reliability, quality and safety.
  • Ensure that electrical activities across the project are in accordance with applicable standards (e.g. the Grid Code, SQSS, RFG ), legislation, ethics, and good practices across the offshore wind farms industry, tender requirements, regulatory aspects and project policies.
  • Responsible for electrical engineering of the offshore substation topsides and cables, as well as providing key technical inputs to the consenting, transport, installation and construction activities.
  • Responsible for the preparation, elaboration and provision of all the specifications and technical documentation to allow engagement with suppliers, with the intention of guaranteeing the correct application, bidding, construction and operation, ensuring that the determining factors established by the Permitting, Environmental and other Local requirements are met.
  • Provide electrical technical support to other areas of the technical department including aspects that matter to installation and HSE and other departments as necessary.
  • Support in the identification, assessment, mitigation plan implementation, and close out of key risks for the electrical package and the project overall.
  • Where required, support the company's work in monitoring and engaging in regulatory matters associated with the development and construction of offshore wind farm projects.
  • Support technical due diligence processes.
  • Monitor technology development and ensure that state of the art is considered in the development of the offshore wind project, identifying optimization and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Ensure that lessons learned are properly documented throughout the life of the project.


  • A degree in electrical or power engineering or equivalent is required. Degrees and training in other technical disciplines will be considered if accompanied by relevant industry experience ongrid and electrical matters.
  • At least 2-3 years of project engineering experience in infrastructure projects within the power / energy sector is required.
  • The project has an international team of employees, and the working language is English. Candidates need to be fluent in English both spoken and written. Proficiency in other languages will be valued.
  • Demonstrable industrial experience in the development, design or construction of offshore wind farm cables and substations is highly desirable, as well as in electrical aspects of WTGs.
  • Exposure and previous involvement in power grid regulatory matters (codes and standards) and electricity market matters is highly desirable.
  • Electrical generation, conversion, protection and control systems within state-of-the-art offshore WTGs.
  • Design parameters and installation fundamentals for onshore and offshore export cables and inter-array cables
  • Understanding of GB grid codes and standards associated with WTG connection to MV networks and with the grid integration of power transmission connected projects is required.
  • Specific knowledge of the design, construction and commissioning of onshore and offshore electrical substations is desirable.
  • Appreciation for planning and consenting processes for on- and offshore transmission assets would be a bonus.
  • A pro-active approach to project engineering and management in order to identify risks and opportunities early and initiate appropriate actions.
  • Experience of working in a multicultural environment, in a consortium or joint venture, with the ability to work in networks
  • Ability to quickly understand and implement new areas of technical knowledge.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a proven ability to write accurate, detailed, and concise technical deliverables.
  • Self-starter and motivated and strong team player - working individually, within and across multi-functional project teams.
  • IT literate, ideally with understanding of E-CAD or power systems analysis software.
  • Location in Edinburgh but travelling may be required to supplier's facilities and offices, local ports, and construction sites. This may include occasional international travel.
