Head of Engineering and Construction – Solar & BESS Taiwan

We're currently recruiting for our client, the Taiwan-based renewable energy developer and IPP for the Solar PV plants and Battery-based Energy Storage Systems in Taiwan providing One-Stop Service and total solutions. Backed by an American multinational investment fund and has been selected by Google as the Renewable Energy Partner in Asia.

With extensive onshore project development experience in the development, construction, operation, and maintenance, they have established themselves as the leading renewable energy IPP company in Taiwan that has a proven track record across the life cycle of Solar PV plants and Battery-based Energy Storage Systems.

We are seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable Head of Engineering & Construction, the overall EPC projects authority within the company, to oversee all engineering and construction aspects of solar PV and BESS projects, from concept to execution, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices, both in technical and commercial aspects. You will play a key role in contributing to managing, developing, and supporting broader technical solutions and project development within the company.

*This leadership position requires experience in large-scale solar projects experience, Electro-mechanical Engineering knowledge, and fluent Mandarin Chinese/English proficiency.*

Location: Taipei, Taiwan

Job Scope:

• Lead all the technical and supply chain aspects in the development phase and work with other internal teams to ensure that projects can be delivered with robust engineering solutions at the lowest cost.
• Skills dealing with local subcontractors, negotiation/reducing costs.
• Deliver technical support to the business development team to deliver solutions to reduce the cost of energy, consistent with safety by design.
• Supervise technical studies made by consultants and review design engineering documents from contractors.
• Oversee procurement documentation and lead technical evaluations.
• Manage and control any budget and costs.
• Support the business development team for the development of the Taiwan solar market.
• Identify technical and economic risks of projects and participate in risk management plans.
• Act as an HSEQ leader and role model for the project by demonstrating a strong safety culture and values in all aspects of the role.
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of engineering and industrial best practices and liaise with shareholder colleagues to ensure that comply with the latest and good practice guidelines.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role it is envisaged that you will have the following skills and experience:

• Electro-mechanical Engineering or relevant domain knowledge, able to write specs according to the project needs, review technical drawings and communicate with electrical design engineers and vendors.
• Extensive technical and supply chain knowledge experience on technically complex and high-valued solar, BESS, or other HV Power Systems energy projects.
• Understand solar panel characteristics and technology, and experience in the selection of panel vendors.
• Construction experience with site supervision experience.
• Contract negotiation experience.
• Able to write specs according to the project needs and communicate with the procurement team.
• BESS experience is preferred.
• Large-scale solar PV project experience is required.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills with a proven ability to work on complex projects and lead multi-disciplinary and diverse teams.
• Proactive person, team player, good attitude and positivism, and problem solver.
• Experienced in MNC solar companies is a plus.
• Good organizational skills and a structured working approach with an eye for detail as well as the ability to keep an extensive overview.
• Fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English, the ability to read, write, and speak in Chinese/English without assistance is a must for this role.
• This role is based in Taipei, Taiwan.
