Taylor Hopkinson are working with a specialist recreational marine business Our client provides general marine accessories (anchors, cleats, seating hardware) to sophisticated digital switching and Li-ion battery systems, selling directly to the world's largest boat/RV OEMs and also to retailers (Bass Pro Shops, Amazon, West Marine, Walmart).

We are seeking an engineer who can lead the design and development of High Voltage Battery Management Systems for a broad range of marine and mobile vehicle applications.

We are seeking a team member to work to help design and engineer advanced energy storage systems for marine propulsion and RV use. The successful candidate will be comfortable in a hands-on environment using lab facilities and simulation tools. This position will interact with physical battery systems, battery management software, vessel control signals and simulation models.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop battery system simulation capabilities forHV systems
    • Create hardware in the loop (HIL) and Software in the loop (SIL) tools
  • Work with and develop marine high voltage battery pack designs
    • Participate in competitive benchmarking
    • Contribute to state of the art, marinized pack designs
  • Ensure the system meets functional safety requirements
    • Verify compliance per ISO and ABYC
    • Develop Safety Methodologies for handling of large format battery packs
  • Collaborate with Cross Enterprise Electrification team to develop robust battery management systems
    • Coordinate Vessel-Level system activities
    • Define Supplier Standard Requirements
    • Manage relationships with suppliers
    • Understand and Execute Tradeoff Studies
    • Create and maintain Failure Modes Analysis, Design Validation Plans, and Functional Requirements documents

Basic Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with power electronics and/or energy storage
  • A willingness to learn and grow as part of a highly engaged team
  • Competency in working across engineering disciplines
  • Thrive in a dynamic, start-up environment

Preferred Experience/Skills

  • Prior exposure to manufacturing
  • Simulation of electric power and energy storage systems using best practice industry tools
  • An understanding of materials science and material selection for power electronics
  • Previous work with electrical safety standards
