Offshore Wind

Newly created position to lead the technical development of offshore wind development projects working directly for a leading international developer.

This is a full-time, permanent position in the UK (location flexible).


The Lead Technical Project Manager will support all offshore development projects in the UK & Ireland and provide technical support to any M&A transactions and origination projects. The role will interface with and be the key contact between the Offshore Wind (OSW) directorate and the Central Technical Office (CTO) department for project specific engineering support.

The Lead Technical Project Manager will:

  • Work with and be the key contact to the CTO business partner to ensure all services and resources required by the projects are provided.
  • Engage and support multiple projects at the same time, and provide governance and oversight to ensure lessons learnt are applied throughout the offshore portfolio.
  • Support the Senior Technical Development Manager in the management of project related technical services, including the application of safety by design considering all stages of the project life cycle.
  • Deliver technical support to the wider OSW team to deliver solutions to reduce the cost of energy, consistent with safety by design.
  • Provide technical input to the procurement process for major contracts and agreements as required.
  • Ensure that the project management frameworks are applied to all projects.
  • Support the CTO in the recruitment of adequate resources and expertise as required for projects engineering team to meet their deliverables.
  • Manage the technical interfaces between the project delivery team.
  • Ensure that each project has a suitable Design and Risk review.
  • Ensure that each project has a suitable Execution and Quality Plan in combination with the CTO business partner.
  • Support the projects commercial leads in all technical issues.
  • Support the Project Controls Manager in ensuring that the Project Technical Risk and Opportunity Management Register is fully developed and managed.
  • Carry out regular reporting of progress, updating schedule and risk register, to meet the requirements of the Project Director.


The Lead Technical Project Manager will be able to demonstrate experience of:

  • Engineering experience in the offshore sector, with a preference for offshore wind technology.
  • Ideally involvement in a project utilising floating technology.
  • An understanding of the engineering input required in the development of an offshore wind farm and competent in risk analysis.
  • Negotiating or management of contracts in general (including FIDIC based contracts).
  • Translating technical details into commercial impact.
  • Managing external consultants with associated contractual and budget responsibility to ensure timely delivery of materials and reports.
  • Interpreting engineering and technical reports and advice from consultants and stakeholders. Thereafter, preparing internal reports and presenting summaries of key risks and mitigation recommendations.

In addition to the experience described above, the Lead Technical Project Manager will demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Ability to communicate, engage and influence others at all levels within the project and outside of the organisation.
  • High capability in preparation of tenders and contract negotiation.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Be able to set clear and measurable goals for members of the OSW technical team.
  • Team player who can lead by example and inspire the OSW team, exhibiting strong people skill.
  • Be capable of empathy and be able to develop his/her team.
  • Able to make effective decisions in the absence of complete information and when under pressure and enable others to act decisively by clarifying roles and responsibilities.
  • Open to change and innovation and can effectively manage the implementation of new ideas within a project.


  • Degree educated in engineering and preferably a Chartered Engineer in a relevant discipline.
