Manager, Transmission Planning & Power Systems

At Taylor Hopkinson, we have been engaged by a leading domestic engineering consultancy to lead the hire of its Manager, Transmission Planning & Power Systems, working on utility-scale onshore wind, solar, and energy storage projects across the United States.

The Manager, Transmission Planning & Power Systems will manage team of large team of power systems engineers, covering all allocated assignments and facilitating their technical and broader professional development.

This position is based in Chicago, IL, with a hybrid office and remote working pattern.

Responsibilities

• Manage a 12+ person team of power systems engineers, ensuring the timely and accurate completion of allocating assignments
• Support the technical and broader professional development of all team members
• Manage transmission planning and power system studies projects, including leading the coordination with external stakeholders such as clients and internal communication between project teams
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry technology and applications of new technologies
• Participate in business development efforts to identify new revenue opportunities, prepare proposals, provide input to project scope, and budgeting

Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years' professional , relevant engineering experience, with 2+ years of leading a team of power systems engineers
• Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's/PhD in Electrical Engineering an advantage
• Experience in stability analysis to identify critical clearing times, identify voltage constraints, and analyze power system damping
• Experience in load flow and contingency analysis to identify transmission constraints and transfer capability limits
• Experience in interconnection process for large generators (>25MW)
• Knowledge of power regions and ISOs/RTOs, such as: MISO, ERCOT, PJM, NYISO, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, ISO-NE
• Experience in scripting languages, including Python and Java Script
