Taylor Hopkinson is working with a leading offshore wind developer to appoint a Senior Design Manager. The role will manage project-level design and optimisation activities for a newly awarded offshore wind project, driving project engineering activities and delivering competitive, optimised design solutions across the project.

This is a full time role based in Edinburgh.

Role:

  • Co-ordination of design and optimisation activities (including project capacity, WTG selection process, footprint and layout optimisation and final selection), energy production estimate activities, project consent envelope and integration of innovation workstreams.
  • Managing multidisciplinary, multidepartment activities ensuring clear communication and alignment is maintained, safeguarding safety by design alongside deliverability, project commercial drivers and other design constraints.
  • Encouraging continuous improvement within workstreams with a particular focus on safety, project economics, inclusion of any innovation.
  • Maintaining robust documentation of corresponding technical workstreams and any resulting design amendments with evidence.
  • Design optimisation activities including developing best practice strategy and methodology, identifying design constraints and targets, co-ordinating engineering cost modelling activities (including design studies and optimisation exercises), delivering technical reviews, identifying key design levers.
  • Administrating and reviewing inputs across disciplines of the consent project description and envelope definition.
  • Innovation management: managing integration of innovation workstreams, coordinating feasibility assessments, business case inputs and documentation as required to deliver adoptions and drive the maximum value into projects.
  • Working with the Head of Development and consenting to develop the full project consenting strategy.
  • Managing consultants providing services in the delivery of the project Ensuring delivery of services to the specified programme and budget.
  • Assuming line management as required, ensuring the optimisation of personal development opportunities for those under direct line management.
  • Work with the Head of Development in required activities to acquire necessary land for the project's onshore infrastructure (including Hydrogen).
  • Work closely with the Offshore and Onshore Development Manager to ensure the delivery of all project consents.
  • Work with the Project Director in any activities to ensure the delivery of the Supply Chain Development Statement.
  • Maximise opportunities for research and development where there are clear benefits for the delivery of the project or benefit to the wider business.
  • Work closely with other developments in the UK portfolio to maximise opportunities.
  • Adherence to all project governance documents, policies, processes and procedure making recommendation on where elements of the governance process can improved to improve delivery.
  • Work closely with Project Controls and Finance Departments to provide corresponding inputs for Project Schedule (Development and Construction phases) and Devex / Capex estimated inputs.
  • Ensure all consent / environmental / client requirements are well considered within the design process.
  • Ensure proper communication with Corporate areas to allow capture corporate procedures, lessons learnt and transfer of knowledge.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience within the Offshore Wind Industry
  • A strong understanding of the offshore wind market.
  • Experience of engineering system design, optimisation, and cost modelling.
  • Experience in a Senior role in the offshore wind sector managing engineering teams.
  • Good organisational skills and experience of project management.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills.
  • A committed and self-motivated worker with longevity in the renewable sector.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment in a multi-disciplinary team across a few specialist areas and organisational cultures.
  • Demonstrated skills in communication across a variety of end groups.
  • Organised and efficient with an ability to multitask and work to deadlines.
  • High standard of report writing and presentation skills.
  • Capability to negotiate with supplier and engage with stakeholders.
