We're currently recruiting for our client, the major renewable energy developer and investor for the Grid-Scale BESS Development in Taiwan. With extensive project development experience in the development, construction, operation, and maintenance, they have established themselves as one of the industry-leading companies in the world that have a proven track record across the life cycle of Grid-Scale Battery-based Energy Storage Systems.

We're currently hiring for the Technical Development Manager Taiwan who is responsible for coordinating and driving all technical development and construction activities to efficiently advance the pipeline of projects.

Reporting to the Head of Taiwan and with a dotted-line to the APAC Technical Lead, you will work with a multi-disciplinary team to bring greenfield and brownfield projects to completion; identify project risks and issues and propose possible solutions and mitigation strategies; ensure Workplace Health, Safety, Environment, Social and Quality (HSEQS) project requirements are complied with; ensure technology solutions are fit for our operational and trading strategies; and ensure interfaces with and among contractors and stakeholders are clearly identified and appropriately managed to drive projects through development and construction.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Coordination: Coordinate and oversee all technical development and construction activities to effectively advance the pipeline of grid scale BESS projects.
  2. Project Management: Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to drive greenfield and brownfield projects to completion, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  3. Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify potential project risks and issues, propose suitable solutions, and develop mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions and maximize project success.
  4. Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Ensure compliance with Workplace Health, Safety, Environment, and Social (WHSES) regulations and quality project requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  5. Operational and Trading Strategy Alignment: Ensure that technology solutions implemented in the projects align with the operational and trading strategies of the company.
  6. Stakeholder Management: Establish and maintain effective communication channels with contractors, stakeholders, and relevant parties involved in the development and construction process, ensuring clear identification and appropriate management of project interfaces.
  7. HV Technical Expertise: Provide technical expertise in the field of high-voltage (HV) electrical engineering, ensuring the suitability and reliability of technology solutions for grid scale BESS projects.
  8. Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and deliver comprehensive project reports, technical documentation, and progress updates to the Head of Taiwan and APAC Technical Lead, ensuring transparency and effective communication.
  9. Support Developoment Activities: Utilise your extensive project experience to support and collaborate closely with Development Manager, from permit, certification to land acqusition and good neighborliness.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering or a related field. A master's degree would be advantageous. Preferably with a focus on HV Power Systems.
  2. Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in HV Electrical Engineering technical development, project management, or construction management in the energy sector, preferably with a focus on grid scale battery energy storage systems.
  3. Technical Expertise: Strong background in HV electrical engineering, with knowledge of power conversion systems, energy management systems, and grid integration requirements. With experience on grid scale battery-based energy storage system would be advantageous.
  4. Project Management Skills: Proven ability to manage complex projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  5. Analytical Thinking: Strong analytic and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify risks, propose solutions, and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  6. Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams, EPC contractors, and stakeholders at various levels.
  7. Team Player: Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team environment, fostering collaboration and contributing to the overall success of the projects.
  8. Adaptability: Flexible and adaptable to evolving project requirements and changing market dynamics.
  9. Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with industry regulations, standards, and compliance requirements related to grid scale battery energy storage systems.
  10. Language Skills: Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese is required. Proficiency in English or other languages would be much preferred.
  11. Taiwanese national is much preferred as this position requires the experience and understandings of the local ways of doing business with suppliers and interface with Taipower Company.
