Opportunity to join a growing US-based developer and owner/operator as a Resource Assessment Manager.
* Based in Boulder, CO.

Description
The Client is seeking an experienced renewable energy Resource Assessment Manager to join a growing Resource Assessment team. The role is an opportunity for those with a background in boundary layer or observational meteorology to apply their skills in numerical problem solving, meteorology or engineering to the design and construction of efficient wind and solar energy assets.

The Resource Assessment Manager will work on early to mid-stage wind and solar development, assist in greenfield prospecting efforts, create preliminary wind/solar turbine/panel layouts, and design/support the development of the project observation campaign to ensure quality data collection.

The client is particularly interested in experience related to:

* Surface/ boundary layer meteorology, observational and/or modeling
* Applications of scanning and profiling Lidar and Sodar, particularly applications related to wind energy
* Synoptic/Meso and Micro-scale modeling
* The WRF Fitch windfarm parameterization is particularly relevant
* Application of meteorological reanalysis datasets and/or downscaling
* Climatic analysis related to different RCP scenarios and their impact on human systems
* Application of novel algorithms to real world problems, particularly in energy
* Applications of wavelet, machine-learning and/or neural-networks

Key Responsibilities:
* Applying theoretical Science/Engineering/Meteorological knowledge to resource assessments on earlystage wind and solar projects. Utilize resource assessment modeling software (commercial / custom) to
quantify energy yield and deliver products to the Financial and Commercial teams, including energy yield
based on time-of-day pricing and/or time series energy capture methodology.
* Plan and execute meteorological observation campaigns with the goal of collecting quality data from
traditional meteorological stations, and/or remote sensing sodars and/or lidars. Ensure observations are
backed by high quality documentation.
* Support 3rd party independent engineering consultants by providing on-site data and documentation
needed for the production of bankable energy yield assessments.
* Design wind farm and solar arrays to optimize energy capture and/or other financial parameters subject
to a variety of real-world constraints related to land use, wind turbine technology, wind resource, and
balance of plant.
* Assist new project prospecting efforts. Conduct preliminary screen of areas for potential wind and solar
projects from a resource assessment perspective.
* Support M&A due diligence efforts from a Resource Assessment perspective on rapid turnaround high
priority wind and solar assets.
* Conduct and/or advise on environmental studies, such as acoustic, shadow flicker, and avian
assessments.
* Manage and plan power curve and acoustic testing, including all related activities associated with
instrumentation and interfacing with turbine suppliers.

Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Engineering or related technical discipline and/or equivalent formal
technical training and experience.
* Experience in running wind/solar farm resource assessments and layout designs using standard industry
software packages such as Windographer, OpenWind, WindPro, PlantPredict, etc.
* Experience with wind and solar meteorological campaigns, met sensors, ground based remote sensors
(LIDARs and SODARs), solar PV battery systems.
* Experience with wind and solar resource assessment modeling software such as Windographer,
OpenWind, WindPro, PVSyst, SAM, ArcGIS, etc.
* Willingness to travel to prospective wind and solar farm locations and existing operational wind and solar
farms.
* Ability to read and comprehend specifications, Construction Drawings, and electrical wiring diagrams.

Additional preferred skills:
* 3 years or more years of experience in running wind/solar farm resource assessments and layout
designs.
* Demonstrated experience using standard industry software such as Windographer, OpenWind, PVSyst
and/or PlantPredict.
* Familiarization with visualization software/coding related to ArcGIS, Google Earth Pro, Paraview, and/or
OSM
* Experience with modeling software such as WRF, OpenFOAM, Fluent or Other-GCMs.
* Coding experience with PyWake, FLORIS and/or Pvlib
* Academic or professional use of reanalysis products such as ECMWF-ERA5 and/or NASA-MERRA or
equivalent
* Coding experience with real-time forecasting models is a plus

Core Competencies
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word
* Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
* Ability to concisely frame issues by providing context, analysis, recommendations and risk/benefit
tradeoffs, both in written, verbal, and presentation format, to project teams and to senior management.
* Willing and available to travel significantly as needed (20%+) to conferences and sitings (prospecting
greenfield projects and met towers).

Organizational Fit:
* Strong project management, process development, and team-building skills. Experience working with
cross-functional internal and external technical advisors and stakeholders.
* Ability to prioritize and deliver top-quality work product in multiple areas in a fast-paced work
environment without direct supervision.
