Commercial & Contract Manager

Position: Commercial & Contracts Manager (BESS)

Location: Tokyo

Key Responsibilities

  • Contracting Strategy: Create and manage the overall contract policies for the entire Japan project pipeline to minimize risks.

  • Procurement & Tenders: Run tender processes for energy storage and balance of plant (BOP) work packages, evaluate responses, and build supplier partnerships.

  • Negotiation: Lead pre-construction negotiations with suppliers on commercial terms, warranties, and engineering requirements to maximize value.

  • Risk Management: Align contract terms to reduce construction and financial risks, coordinating closely with project teams, insurers, and financial modelers.

  • Team Collaboration: Support construction and asset management teams as contracts transition into active operations.

What we need

  • Experience: Proven track record in developing and negotiating construction contracts for long-term international infrastructure or energy projects.

  • Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of the Japanese power market, renewable energy/storage technologies, and best practices for project development.

  • Skills: Strong commercial judgment, leadership, and communication skills, with the flexibility to collaborate effectively with external partners.
