We are partnering with a high technology driven international energy trading and asset optimization group that is expanding its footprint in the Japanese power market.
We are seeking an entrepreneurial and commercially sharp Business Development Manager to spearhead our aggregation, virtual power plant (VPP), and battery energy storage system (BESS) commercial initiatives in Japan.
In this role, you will play a foundational part in building commercial partnerships with asset owners, IPPs, and renewable developers, helping monetize flexibility in the rapidly evolving Japanese electricity market.
Core Responsibilities
- 事業開発: 系統用蓄電池（BESS）、太陽光発電、分散型エネルギーリソース（DER）に特化したアグリゲーションサービスの事業開発および新規顧客獲得の推進
- 電力購入契約（PPA）、ルート・トゥ・マーケット（市場アクセス）契約、および収益分配・最適化モデルを含む高度な商業合意の交渉および構造化
- 日本の規制環境および取引環境（JEPX、容量市場、需給調整市場等）に合致したゴー・トゥ・マーケット（GTM）戦略の策定

Commercial Growth: Drive business development and client acquisition for energy aggregation services, focusing on grid-scale BESS, solar PV, wind, and distributed energy assets.

Partnership Structuring: Negotiate and structure complex commercial agreements, including Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), route-to-market contracts, and revenue-sharing/optimization models.

Market Positioning & Strategy: Formulate go-to-market strategies tailored to the Japanese regulatory and trading environment (leveraging JEPX, capacity markets, and balancing/ancillary service markets).
Key Requirements
- Japanese native and English proficiency required

5-10 years of commercial experience in business development, origination, trading, or sales within the Japanese energy, power utility, or renewable energy sector.
- Deep understanding of the Japanese electricity market structure, wholesale power trading, and the commercial drivers for grid-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and VPP / aggregation models
