Backed by global alternative asset manager, we are now partnering with developers, operators, and institutional investors in Japan to originate, structure, and execute scalable infrastructure opportunities.

The BESS Engineer, based in Tokyo will support the Technical Director in areas like technical development, integration, and optimization of grid-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems.

The role covers feasibility, system design, vendor evaluation, grid compliance, and construction support.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site feasibility assessments for standalone and hybrid (solar + storage) projects
  • Review and validate single-line diagrams (SLDs), protection schemes, and control architecture
  • Evaluate BESS integrators and PCS manufacturers
  • Provide technical oversight during construction and commissioning
  • Monitor system performance post-COD
  • Optimize charge/discharge strategy for arbitrage and ancillary services

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in BESS, power systems, renewables, or grid engineering

  • Strong knowledge of battery technologies and EMS/SCADA systems will be useful

  • Experience with grid interconnection and utility coordination

  • Familiarity with Japanese power market structures (capacity market, ancillary services) is advantageous

  • Japanese proficiency is a must, English will be useful
