Cable Project Engineer

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities for the role include:

• Involved in the full project life cycle, from project definition, preparing and evaluating tenders, conceptual and front-end design development, detail design reviews, HAZID/HAZCON/HAZOP sessions into supporting construction, installation, commissioning and project completion.
• Providing cable engineering support across multiple projects by producing or reviewing outline cable system designs during development phases, including Review and assessment of technology options, underground cable routing selection, producing current rating calculations using CYMCAP software and assessment of interface requirements.
• Reviewing cable system prequalification and type testing reports in preparation for Client approval, reviewing and verifying contractor/consultant detailed underground cable system designs, witnessing factory and relevant discipline site acceptance testing.
• Providing technical support to site teams to ensure quality of installations and cable commissioning activities.
• Promoting and managing safety within assigned projects through the implementation of CDM procedures and practices, ensuring the project engineering is compliant with company, HSE and industry regulations.
• Working closely with Engineering Managers and Project Managers to ensure that Engineering and Quality risks are identified and mitigated.
• Providing technical support on high profile projects or technically complex issues.
• Accommodate site visit and witness testing as per required.

Requirements for the Role

Candidates must have:

• Demonstrable technical skills in Cable system design and awareness of cable specification and design verification.
• Self-Starter attitude, who enjoy problem solving and have an ability to communicate complex technical issues in a clear and concise manner to facilitate decision making by senior management.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to demonstrate diligence and to prioritise workload.
• An understanding of the legislation and implications of such for the management of the Transmission network for both Assets and Projects, including CDM & ESQCR.
• An appreciation of multi-discipline projects, and design interface management would be desirable.
• Working Pattern: Preference is 4 days (30 hours/week) or Part time – 3 days per week (24 hours/week)
