Position Title: Japan – Senior Legal Counsel
Reporting to: Development Legal Director, Local Country Manager
Location: Tokyo, Japan
What you’ll do
- Draft, review and negotiate key project agreements (land agreements, EPC/BOP contracts, PPAs, supply agreements)
- Provide legal support across the full project lifecycle – development, financial close, construction, and operation
- Identify and manage legal risk while aligning with overall project strategy
- Advise senior management with commercially-driven, business-focused legal guidance
- Work cross-functionally with engineering, finance, development and permitting teams
- Support M&A, financing, and transaction documentation as the pipeline grows
- Manage external counsel and support corporate governance for Japanese entities
What we’re looking for
- Law degree from a recognised Japanese institution (bar admission a plus)
- 8+ years of experience, ideally in renewable energy or infrastructure
- Strong background in at least two of: real estate/land, construction/infrastructure, energy/project finance, or corporate/commercial law
- Commercially minded, autonomous, and comfortable managing multiple priorities
- Japanese fluency needed. Advanced English proficiency
