About the Role

An international renewable energy investment platform is expanding its utility-scale battery storage portfolio in Germany.

The Project CEO will assume overall responsibility for one or more projects, leading them from late-stage development and final investment approval through construction, commercial operation and early operational performance.

Acting as the senior representative for the portfolio, the successful candidate will hold primary accountability for project delivery, capital discipline, commercial performance and stakeholder management.

Scope

This is a full life-cycle leadership position covering project investment, execution and early operations. The role includes capital allocation, financial performance, construction strategy and oversight of multiple contractual work-streams.

The Project CEO will manage a broad stakeholder landscape encompassing grid operators, contractors, equipment suppliers, lenders, commercial partners and senior governance representatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned battery storage projects from late-stage development and investment approval through construction, commercial operation and early operations.
  • Deliver projects within approved budgets and programme baselines.
  • Take ownership of commercial and financial performance, including investment returns, cash flow and debt-service requirements.
  • Oversee project capital allocation and protect investor value through disciplined decision-making and governance.
  • Lead grid-connection strategy and engagement with transmission and distribution network operators.
  • Contribute to revenue, route-to-market and off-take strategies alongside commercial specialists.
  • Define the contracting and construction strategy, overseeing contractor performance and structured change control.
  • Build and lead a high-performing regional project organisation as the portfolio expands.
  • Maintain effective risk and opportunity management, ensuring timely mitigation and escalation.
  • Provide clear, decision-ready reporting to senior investment and governance stakeholders.
  • Represent the projects in relationships with contractors, suppliers, lenders, grid operators and other external partners.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven track record leading major energy or infrastructure projects from investment approval through construction and commercial operation.
  • Relevant experience within battery storage, onshore or offshore wind, power infrastructure or another capital-intensive sector.
  • Demonstrated commercial and financial ownership of projects during investment and execution.
  • Strong understanding of project economics, capital management and financial return metrics.
  • Experience operating with significant delegated authority and reporting to boards, investment committees or equivalent governance bodies.
  • Comfortable working within a growing organisation where structures and processes are still developing.
  • Strong leadership credentials, including experience building or scaling project-delivery teams.
  • Fluent German, with practical knowledge of the country’s energy market, regulatory environment, permitting requirements and grid-connection processes.
  • Able to balance delivery, commercial and stakeholder priorities while maintaining clear accountability for results.
