Join a global renewable energy company supporting the development and delivery of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Japan. As a Project Engineer, you will provide technical leadership throughout the full project lifecycle-from development and engineering through construction, commissioning, and handover to operations. Working closely with internal teams including Development, Procurement, Construction, Asset Management, Operations, and Energy Trading, you will ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support throughout the development, design, construction, and commissioning phases of BESS projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure technical requirements align with commercial, operational, and project objectives.
  • Evaluate new project opportunities through technical due diligence, site assessments, and feasibility studies.
  • Prepare and optimize system designs, including site layouts, equipment selection, and system sizing.
  • Support grid connection applications and coordinate with utilities and relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop technical scopes of work for EPC contractors, consultants, and engineering vendors.
  • Manage technical interfaces with Owner’s Engineers, contractors, and design consultants throughout project execution.
  • Coordinate design reviews, risk assessments, quality assurance activities, and technical compliance during construction.
  • Oversee the technical delivery of projects to ensure safety, quality, schedule, and budget targets are achieved.
  • Lead the integration of SCADA, communication systems, substations, power conversion systems (PCS), and Balance of Plant (BoP) equipment.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor construction progress, identify technical risks, and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Support the transition of projects from development to construction and ultimately into operations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by sharing technical knowledge and best practices with global engineering teams.
  • Promote a strong Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) culture across all project activities.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering (preferred) or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the energy industry, including project development, engineering consulting, EPC, construction, or utility-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Experience supporting or managing renewable energy, BESS, power generation, or electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Strong project management, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of Battery Energy Storage Systems, substations, SCADA, power conversion systems (PCS), fire protection systems, and grid-connected power equipment.
  • Ability to review engineering drawings, technical specifications, and design documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, project management software, and CAD-based engineering tools.
