Service Engineer

Taylor Hopkinson is actively pursuing a BESS Service Engineer to join a global leader in battery energy storage solutions dedicated to advancing the clean energy transition through innovative energy storage technology in Jacksonville, Florida. The organization develops and supports utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) that improve grid reliability, integrate renewable energy, and deliver long-term value to customers worldwide.

This professional will be responsible for supporting the O&M of utility-scale BESS throughout their operational life cycle. Working closely with the Service organization and engineering teams, this role ensures a seamless transition from project commissioning into LTSA supports post-commissioning engineering activities, and provides advanced technical expertise during the operations phase.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience with DC- and AC-coupled energy storage systems, system integration, power conversion systems, controls, and troubleshooting complex BESS installations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the transition of newly commissioned BESS projects into long-term operations and maintenance.
  • Coordinate the closeout of engineering action items and commissioning punch-list activities following project delivery.
  • Serve as a technical resource for field service teams, service managers, authorized service partners, and customers throughout the operational life of projects.
  • Review and validate project documentation, including engineering drawings, design specifications, block diagrams, and system interfaces to ensure operational readiness.
  • Provide advanced technical support for troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of field issues.
  • Develop corrective action plans, work instructions, and technical guidance for field personnel and service partners.
  • Interpret single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, switching procedures, and system documentation.
  • Maintain expertise in BESS, PCS, PMS, PPC, and SCADA platforms.
  • Review and validate system integration, project specifications, certifications, and augmentation activities throughout the operational lifecycle.
  • Support bid and proposal teams by providing operational feedback and technical expertise for future projects.
  • Capture lessons learned and collaborate with engineering and product development teams to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Coordinate annual performance testing and prepare technical reports for customers.
  • Develop technical service bulletins and lead RCA investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and codes, including NFPA 855, UL9540, UL9540A, UL1973, UL1642, UL1741 SA, and other relevant regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years of professional experience in electrical engineering, systems engineering, or utility-scale energy storage.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • BESS
    • Power Systems
    • PCS
    • PMS
    • SCADA and control systems
  • Experience supporting utility-scale renewable energy or energy storage projects.
  • Knowledge of power generation, grid integration, and electricity markets.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and customer-facing skills.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 50%.
