Solution Manager – Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

Taylor Hopkinson is partnering with a global renewable energy technology leader that is expanding its presence in Japan. Our client delivers integrated clean energy solutions across power generation, energy storage, and digital energy platforms, supporting utilities and large-scale energy users worldwide.

As part of its continued growth in the Japanese market, the organisation is seeking an experienced Solution Manager – BESS to support the development and delivery of utility-scale energy storage projects.

The Role

This is a customer-facing technical solutions role, positioned at the interface between engineering, sales, and product teams. You will play a key role in shaping BESS solutions from pre-sales and tender stage through to contract finalisation, ensuring technical robustness and commercial competitiveness.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and optimise utility-scale BESS solutions aligned with customer and grid requirements

• Analyse RFPs, technical specifications, and project risks

• Prepare and deliver technical proposals, system designs, and customer presentations

• Translate customer, regulatory, and grid requirements into robust system architectures

• Lead preparation and submission of technical tender documentation

• Support commercial teams during technical negotiations and contract finalisation

• Monitor market, regulatory, and technology trends within the energy storage sector

• Contribute to ongoing solution and product development initiatives

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Energy Engineering

• Fluency in Japanese and English (technical and business level)

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in energy, power systems, or energy storage-related roles

• Strong technical knowledge of:

  • Battery energy storage systems

  • Power Conversion Systems (PCS)

  • EMS / PPC / SCADA

  • Grid connection and utility processes

• Experience working with utilities, DNOs, or TSOs is preferred

• Solid understanding of grid codes, regulatory frameworks, and technical standards

• Ability to size battery and PCS systems
