Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Technical Director to lead engineering, project delivery, and operations strategy for solar PV projects in the Philippines.

This senior leadership role will oversee technical execution from development through construction and into operations, while supporting local development, commercial, and asset management functions. The position reports to the Regional Head of Project Delivery and leads a local technical team of up to 10 professionals.

The role will require a candidate to be based in the Philippines. We will consider candidates who require relocation support but should have exposure to previous Filipino solar projects.


Responsibilities:

Engineering Leadership
* Define and enforce technical standards across PV plants, transmission, and substations.
* Apply value engineering to optimise cost, performance, and sustainability.
* Review and approve designs, drawings, and engineering documentation.
* Lead grid interconnection studies and ensure utility compliance.
* Integrate global engineering best practices into local project delivery.

Project Delivery Oversight
* Oversee construction and commissioning of PV plants, transmission infrastructure, and substations.
* Manage schedules, budgets, and risks using formal project control methodologies.
* Coordinate EPC contractors, monitor milestones, and report progress to senior leadership and partners.
* Utilise tools such as MS Project or Primavera for planning and resource allocation.

Operations & Maintenance Strategy
* Develop O&M strategy for utility-scale and distributed assets, including recruitment of local O&M leadership.
* Implement preventive and predictive maintenance practices to maximise plant availability.
* Monitor asset performance through SCADA and analytics in coordination with central asset management teams.
* Manage warranties, spares, vendor performance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Development, Commercial & M&A Support
* Provide technical input during early-stage development to ensure bankable and optimised designs.
* Support proposals with system design, grid solutions, and cost inputs.
* Participate in customer and stakeholder meetings to explain technical solutions.
* Assess technical and operational risks for new projects and acquisitions.
* Support M&A due diligence and prepare technical reports for investment committees.

HSE, Quality & Contracting
* Ensure strong adherence to HSE and quality standards across all projects.
* Lead technical evaluation and negotiation of EPC tenders.
* Apply knowledge of FIDIC and international contract frameworks to mitigate risk and secure favourable terms.

Leadership & Team Development
* Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing local technical team.
* Drive recruitment, succession planning, and capability development.
* Provide strategic technical direction aligned with regional growth objectives.


Requirements:

* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred).
* 10+ years of renewable energy experience with strong solar PV background; T&D, substations, and BESS knowledge advantageous.
* Experience delivering both C&I and utility-scale solar projects in SE Asia
* Proven track record delivering 200+ MW of projects.
* Strong project controls, reporting, and risk management experience.
* Proficiency with MS Office, document management, and collaboration tools.
* Fluent English and willingness to travel to project sites across the Philippines.
