Employers are cooling on fully-remote working as we get deeper into 2024, with hybrid and flexible working firmly shaping up as the expectation from companies.
Despite the trend swinging back to hybrid as the norm, some employers are still open to hiring new starts fully-remote, or with only occasional visits to the office.
“Lately, our clients are looking for new hires to spend at least two days each week in the office,” says Grace Brown, a Senior Consultant in our Onshore Renewables team in Glasgow. “But there are still positives to hiring fully-remote employees. Companies can save money on office space, utilities and other expenses, they can boost employee satisfaction rates by giving flexibility and control over work-life balance, and they can attract and retain top-tier talent from a wider geographic area.
“These are all considerable benefits that employers cannot disregard, even as the balance shifts towards returning to the office.”
Fully remote and remote-first vacancies in renewables
Some positions and skillsets are naturally more suited to being office-based, while others lend themselves to remote workers. “Data and digital-focused and asset management work can be done remotely because they don’t require physical interaction with equipment or systems,” says Mante Dobrovolskaite, a green hydrogen specialist in our Onshore Renewables team in Glasgow.
Likewise, project management and marketing and PR roles can be done remotely. These roles involve overseeing the progress of projects, or creation of materials and campaigns, as well as communication with stakeholders – all of which can be achieved with a laptop, a broadband connection and the right software.
For the right personality types, remote working can be beneficial for your career and work/life balance. If you’re interested in cutting out the commute, here are 12 renewables roles, hand-picked by our global network of consultants, that are either fully remote or require only occasional visits to the office.
