Sr. Preconstruction Project Manager

Taylor Hopkinson is currently in active pursuit of a Senior Project Manager ifor the Precon team in Chicago, Illinois with a leading renewable energy company driving the clean energy transition with investments in wind, solar, and battery storage across nearly 30 countries.

The Senior Preconstruction Project Manager is responsible for preparing utility-scale solar (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects for construction across the U.S., with a strong focus on projects located on the East Coast. The role ensures that engineering, permitting, cost estimating, and contracting processes are fully aligned and ready for seamless transition into execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead preconstruction execution for renewable energy projects by coordinating engineering, permitting, procurement, and operations teams to ensure projects are fully prepared for construction start.

  • Manage engineering deliverables across civil, geotechnical, HV, PV, and BESS scopes while overseeing schedules, design progress, site surveys, and constructability reviews to support bid-ready and construction-compliant projects.

  • Drive site optimization and permitting strategies by coordinating with development, engineering, legal, and external stakeholders to secure permits, utility crossings, and interconnection requirements on schedule.

  • Support project cost reduction and LCOE improvement initiatives through cross-functional collaboration, design optimization, and lessons learned integration.

  • Develop and validate scopes of work, engineering packages, and technical documentation to support procurement, bidding, and contractor negotiations.

  • Yntegrate O&M requirements into project scopes and proactively identify and mitigate technical, regulatory, and logistical risks prior to construction mobilization.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction-related field and 7+ years of experience within renewable energy construction, engineering, or project management.

  • Strong experience with renewable energy infrastructure, project coordination, permitting, engineering management, and stakeholder communication is required, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. PMP certification is preferred.
