HVDC Cable Engineer

HVDC Cable Engineer required for a major Offshore Wind Farm developer based in Germany.

Responsibilities:

  • Technical assessment and development of HVDC cable system concepts, including cables, joints, terminations, accessories and station interfaces.
  • Review of engineering, manufacturing, installation and test documentation provided by cable manufacturers and contractors.
  • Assessment of cable design, material, process and supplier changes, including their impact on electrical, thermal, mechanical and ageing performance.
  • Evaluation of system stresses arising from grid operation, switching events, faults, overvoltages and converter operation, with translation into testing and qualification requirements.
  • Development and review of qualification and verification concepts, including type tests, prequalification tests, FATs, SATs, installation tests and lifetime evidence.
  • Technical coordination across cable manufacturers, jointing specialists, converter suppliers, grid planning, quality assurance and commissioning teams.
  • Supplier and quality audits, technical reviews, resolution of deviations, tracking of open technical items and preparation of decision papers and lessons learned.

Requirements:

  • Degree in electrical engineering, power engineering or a comparable technical discipline.
  • English at C1 level and unrestricted authorisation to work within the European Union.
  • At least five years of professional experience in the design, engineering, qualification, technical assessment, testing or commissioning of high- or extra-high-voltage cable systems (HVAC or HVDC).
  • Strong experience with HVDC cable systems, cable accessories, joints, terminations and station connections.
  • Proven ability to assess cable designs and changes to materials, processes or suppliers.
  • Experience with technical specifications, manufacturer documentation, installation procedures and test documentation.
  • Practical exposure to FAT, SAT, PQ or comparable testing and acceptance processes, together with quality assurance or quality management experience in infrastructure or energy projects.
  • Experience coordinating with cable manufacturers, installation contractors, jointing specialists and EPC contractors in an international project environment.
