Project Engineering Manager required for an Offshore Windfarm EPCI company, based in UK.

Role

  • Act as lead on offshore wind projects from tender through to execution.
  • The initial focus for the role is to help win the next EPCI offshore wind projects and therefore the successful candidate must have demonstrable experience of extensive involvement with the full tender lifecycle, ideally on projects of a similar size and scope.
  • The role will include supporting business development, delivering technology studies, managing the engineering input to tenders as well as co-ordinating the work of other groups within the company and managing external consultants.
  • The opportunity then exists to progress with a successful tender into the execution phase.
  • Much of the work is in the delivery of offshore wind turbine foundations and experience of structures or geotechnics and related disciplines would be an advantage.
  • Experience of offshore renewables, especially offshore wind would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible to the Tender Manager for delivery to tenders of all design & fabrication engineering and requirements associated with client work scopes.
  • Interface with other groups within business for transportation and installation engineering.
  • Ensure lessons learned for previous tenders and projects are employed to help win and successfully deliver new projects.
  • Work with Engineering Director to deliver innovate solutions to help win and successfully deliver projects.
  • Manage the engineering resources and interfaces on a tender or project to achieve successful delivery.
  • Interface with discipline leads and/or group leads to ensure deliverable schedule is being met and budget is on track across multiple work scopes.
  • Ensure schedule of engineering is linked to procurement activities, package, and fabrication supply across multiple projects.
  • Manage and participate in technical audits of projects and studies.
  • Responsible for ensuring that standard of engineering services provided complies with corporate standards and client specifications along with appropriate legislation thus ensuring contract compliance to protect company interests.
  • Develop cost proposals and subsequent engineering schedules for multiple work scopes. This may include either internal or external resources.
  • Reviewing and commenting on client technical requirements.
  • Identify solutions to project technical challenges to identify cost effective solutions.
  • Identify resource requirements on a continuing basis.
  • Responsible for validating/ commenting on Client Scope of Works (SoR's)
  • Responsible for ensuring adequate client scopes of work and monitoring of scope growth with respect to VOs.
  • Focal point for technical queries / issues related to project work scopes.
  • Manage, contribute to and (if necessary) facilitate risk assessment of project work scopes.
  • Ensure all engineering personnel are aware of BMS and PM7 and ensure adherence to client standards.
  • Ensure that all procedures and methods of work developed have considered the safety of personnel and assets to minimise risk and potential cost of loss.
  • Encourage awareness and reporting of variations to contract scope. Identify and quantify engineering changes to contract and assist in providing input to contracts manager for Variation Orders (VOs)
  • Promote and facilitate project team awareness of company QA and HSE procedures.
  • Understand the environmental impact and sustainability of the work that is undertaken.
  • Ensure engineering on the project team is effective and quality driven.
  • Agree and monitor performance objectives with direct reports.
  • Actively engage in the project risk assessment and mitigation processes.

Requirements

  • It is preferable for candidate to be degree qualified in Engineering or Marine discipline plus appropriate experience.
  • Candidates should show a commitment to Continuing Professional Development.
  • Proven Offshore Engineering Experience working on EPCI projects at a senior level is essential.
  • Proven demonstrable experience of extensive involvement with the full tender lifecycle, ideally on projects of a similar size and scope is essential.
  • Good commercial awareness, an understanding of cost and an ability to develop cost effective solutions for tenders.
  • Experience in technical risk identification and mitigation.
  • Experience of working on renewables projects, especially offshore wind, would be an advantage.
  • Experience of managing multi-discipline engineering input to projects or work packages.
  • Experience of working directly with clients.
  • Demonstrable ability to work within time/budget constraints.
  • Experience in technical risk identification and mitigation.
  • An ability to lead engineering teams across multiple locations.
  • Experience in interface management.
  • Excellent communication skills, oral, written, and electronic.
  • Mentor engineers who have joined the company through the graduate and conversion programme.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects / work scopes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lead a design team.
  • Ability to prioritise own and others' workload, manage time and change control accordingly and direct team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of programme or budget.
  • Ability to manage interfaces within a project structure, including other disciplines, drawing office, document control, project management, client, and suppliers.
  • Ability to coordinate resource in collaboration with regional engineering managers to guarantee all projects are well maintained.
  • Candidates should be generally conversant with IT systems such as e-mail and internet, and capable of utilising standard software packages such as MS Office (Excel/Word/PowerPoint etc.) as may be required to facilitate written correspondence, reports, and presentations.
