Electrical Engineer required for an Offshore Wind Project in Edinburgh.


The electrical department is responsible for all the non-generation electrical infrastructure for the project. This includes specific packages for the following items: onshore substation, onshore export cable, offshore export cable, array cable and offshore substation topsides. The Electrical and SCADA Engineers sit within the electrical department and provide support for the various electrical department packages as well as to other project packages, such as the wind turbine generator (WTG) package and interface team.
The Electrical Engineer will provide assistance to the electrical and SCADA engineers in the installation and commissioning of the onshore and offshore electrical plant.

Accountabilities
The work will be based at the project office in Edinburgh with regular travel to the offshore fabrication yard in Hoboken (Belgium) and the main substation compound in New Deer (Aberdeenshire). There may also be opportunities for offshore working on the substation platforms and WTGs.
As the project enters the installation and commissioning phase the main responsibility for the Electrical Engineer will be to assist the Electrical and SCADA Engineers in ensuring that the installation and commissioning activities are delivered in accordance with the contractual requirements and recorded.
This will include:

  • Management of Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) reports and snag lists.
  • Witnessing Commissioning and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) at all locations.
  • Reviewing test documentation plans.
  • Management of FAT and SAT documentation for the project data room.
  • Preparation of technical notes for package managers and project senior management.
  • Chairing and taking minutes at technical working groups.
  • Reviewing project deliverables against contract documents.
  • Assist with establishing communications to site and control room.


Required Professional Experience
Previous experience within wind energy industry desirable. Knowledge of protection, SCADA, networks and communication, commissioning is also an advantage.

Required Knowledge
Knowledge of electrical systems is required.

  • An understanding of high voltage plant and operation.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (Grid Code, CUSC, etc).
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems an advantage.
  • Knowledge of protection systems an advantage.
  • Knowledge of network and communications systems an advantage.
  • Knowledge and user experience in drawing package MS Visio, Autocad (2D drawings).
  • Excellent knowledge of Office suite including Excel, Powerpoint and Word.
  • An understanding of the different stakeholders involved in the development and construction of an offshore wind farm is required.


Skills/Competencies: Ability to communicate across all levels of an international organisation; ability to interact with suppliers, meet deadlines, and demonstrate strong organisational skills.
Required academics: BEng, MSc Degree or equivalent in electrical engineering, physics, renewable generation or other technology related subject.
Alternatively HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3 in an engineering discipline or time served apprenticeship will be accepted, supported with relevant professional experience.
Must have a clean driving license and passport. The role will entail the candidate travelling to locations in Scotland and abroad.
Other specifications: Main Location in Edinburgh, but significant time will be spent on site.
