The Global Construction Director is a business critical, senior leadership role to be filled by an exceptional professional with extensive domestic and/or international construction management experience, including across utility-scale renewable energy projects.

The Global Construction Director will be the lead responsible for the timely, safe, and cost-effective delivery of a multi-GW portfolio of utility-scale wind, solar, and energy storage projects across North America and Australia.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in all aspects of construction management for large renewable energy portfolios, including conflict & contract management, planning & control, and engineering & procurement.

This is a hybrid remote and site-based position, with the Global Construction Director expected to travel as required throughout North America, Australia, and to HQ in the UK. This individual should be located in the US, Canada, Australia or the UK.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform as the lead responsible for the successful construction of a multi-GW, domestic and international portfolio of utility-scale wind, solar, and energy storage projects
  • Responsible for varied commercial activities, including managing construction and project budgets, P&L, and contract management
  • Manage HSE planning compliance throughout project life cycle
  • Develop and maintain a range of key stakeholder relationships on a domestic and international basis, including construction/execution, engineering, procurement professionals and senior management
  • Take on personal responsibility for coordinating all aspects of the project through to commercial operations
  • Perform as the point of contact for all conflict resolution and management
  • Perform as the point of contact for all contract management requirements, including leading negotiations with subcontractors and equipment suppliers
  • Attend and play a key, contributory role in weekly construction meetings with senior management
  • Manage key procurement interfaces including equipment supplier contracts and negotiations
  • Interface and contribute to discussions with technical teams, including engineering and owner's engineer
  • Be comfortable managing difficult conversations as required to successfully carried out responsibilities
  • Develop and implement first class construction and project management principles and practices
  • Ensure exceptional levels of HSE compliance are upheld across all sites
  • Ensure all legal documents are completed on time, turning to the relevant professionals if required
  • Manage project budget and cash flow in accordance with pre- and ongoing projections
  • Travel to sites throughout North America, Australia and to HQ in London, UK as required

Requirements:

  • Degree-level education in relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional experience and/or qualifications
  • 15+ years' professional construction management experience, including 5+ years in the renewable energy industry
  • Experience managing dynamic relationships with varied project stakeholders, from on-site personnel to executive leadership teams
  • Experience of successfully delivering portfolios of utility-scale renewable energy projects concurrently
  • Extensive procurement experience relating to clean energy projects
  • Demonstrable experience of effectively leading conflict resolution challenges
  • Demonstrable experience of managing and negotiating diverse contracts and change orders
  • Deep technical knowledge, as required to contribute in discussions with engineering teams and professionals
  • Deep-level understanding of the HSE requirements for utility-scale renewable energy project construction
  • Demonstrable track record of delivering high-quality, timely projects with no accidents/incidents, while in line with budgetary requirements/estimations
  • Strong MS Office user
  • Assertive, articulate, communicative and team-orientated leader of project staff
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience delivering renewable energy projects across multiple technologies preferred
  • Experience delivering international projects beneficial
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally to project sites, customer & global leadership meetings
