The Wind Resource Assessor will be part of a new global offshore wind execution team with a major international energy developer.

Taylor Hopkinson is retained to build out a global offshore wind team for one of the world's leading energy businesses. This team will develop & execute projects in the UK & US as well forming a global centre of excellence for a rapidly growing offshore wind portfolio.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in the US (location flexible).

The Role

  • Analysis and interpretation of measured wind data using state-of-the-art statistical methods, calculation of energy yield assessment, including uncertainty and losses.
  • Modelling of wind flow using linear and non-linear wind flow models including an understanding of uncertainty in the numerical approaches.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce the uncertainties in long term resource assessments, through use of long hindcast/climate simulations and statistical methods.
  • Provide due diligence and independent verification of third-party energy yield assessments.
  • Collaborate with Metocean engineers to identify measurement requirements and scopes of work to meet industry standards required to support project financing.
  • Develop, maintain bespoke tools - primarily in MatLab or Python languages - that enhance internal capability to efficiently assess potential wind-resources and perform due diligence.
  • Drive turbine and array optimisation opportunities through collaboration with other engineering disciplines (e.g., Structures, Mechanical, Geotechnical).
  • Deliver high quality technical reports and prepare and review technical tenders.
  • Maintain an awareness of the market and on-going innovation in technology and research through participation in internal and external R&D projects (JIPs).

The Requirements

  • Masters or PhD level in meteorology, mathematics, engineering or degree in meteorology, statistics, or engineering - or a closely aligned discipline.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards focusing on resource assessment, engineering design and instrumentation.
  • Expertise in the following areas: meteorology, statistics, computational fluid mechanics (CFD) - in the areas of boundary layer dynamics and turbulence.
  • A good level of understanding around the mechanical and structural aspects of turbine/array design and optimisation.
  • A track record of innovation and leadership in the development of non-standard approaches to wind resource assessment.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear and succinct manner.
